The calibrating system was calibrated to Standard Reference Material traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Calibrations are performed by Holts Precision inc.



Contains four individual roughness scales that include replicated surface finish specimens of machined (S-22), grit-blasted (G-6), shot-blasted (SH-6) and electrical discharge machined (EDM) (E-9) surfaces.

The G-4 GAR PAK Kit is supplied in an attractive pocket-sized vinyl case. Individual scales are available and can be purchased separately.

This MICROFINISH COMPARATOR Surface Roughness Set is a patented item and is a product of the engineering skill and precision workmanship of GAR Electroforming Division.

  The G-4 GAR PAK Kit Contains

S-22 Scale

Twenty two specimens of conventionally machined surfaces - lapped, ground, blanchard ground, shape-turned, milled and profiled - ranging from 2 to 500 microinches.

SH-6 Scale

Six shot-blast specimens ranging from 32 to 1000 microinches.

E-9 Scale

Nine EDM specimens ranging from 16 to 250 microinches.

G-6 Scale

Six grit-blast specimens ranging from 32 to 1000 microinches.

The S-22 Conventional Machining MICROFINISH COMPARATOR is rectangular in shape (2" x 5 3/8") and is a corrosion resistant electroformed nickel duplicate of actual machined surfaces.

There are twenty two replicated machined surface finish specimens with examples of six different machining processes: lapped, ground, blanchard ground, shape-turned, milled and profiled - ranging from 2 to 500 microinches.

The S-22 MICROFINISH COMPARATOR is supplied in a leatherette case with engineering data and instructions.

The S-22 is also available in metric with micrometer designations.

The specimens are electroformed replicas of original machined surface.

This MICROFINISH COMPARATOR Surface Roughness is made of nickel. It will not corrode.

Each specimen has the surface roughness characteristics of a machined metallic material

Means the finely spaced surface irregularities produced by the cutting action of the tool edges, the feed of the machine tool and by abrasive grains.

The original masters and the electroformed replica production masters have been checked at evenly distributed intervals.  Sufficient measurements were taken to determine representative average. The rating listed is the average of these readings.

This is the term used to designate the direction of the predominant surface irregularities.

These are the irregularities which may appear at infrequent intervals. They are not typical of a  machined surface.
